Health Risks

To control health risks during project execution, the following health management tools are recommended

  • Require each contractor employee to take a medical examination.
  • Train contractor supervisors in risk assessment techniques.
  • Before project initiation, make an assessment of the health risk, and based on the risks, implement appropriate preventive and mitigating measures.
  • Develop a well‐defined communication plan to inform employees of the possible risks and to get feedback from employees.

The following health management tools are required to control health risks

  • Each site is provided with first‐aid facilities to mitigate the effects of an incident and to provide advice in preventing incidents.
  • A permit procedure is in place to control specific activities and to inform individuals of potential hazards and control measures.
  • Regular training is provided in the use of PPE.
  • The procedures are reviewed on a regular basis so that appropriate measures can be taken.

In field execution, specific health hazards must be considered in a risk management assessment. Typical health risks, the setting where the risk usually poses a problem and the preventive measures to be taken for a particular risk are discussed herein.
